What is Amazon? Definition and Meaning

Amazon.com is the United States-based multinational company that operates an online retail business in more than sixteen countries.

Amazon was established by Jeff Besos on July 5, 1994, as an online bookstore, however, it later began to sell apparel, furniture, toys, electronics etc. Jeff, in one of his speeches, said, that he incorporated Amazon based on the growing web usage in the spring of 1994. He settled for the name Amazon because he wanted everything from letter A to letter Z to be sold on it just like the river Amazon which is the home to millions of species.

The Amazon’s headquarter is in Seattle, Washington. Amazon is the world’s largest company in terms of revenue and market capitalization.
